The only downside..
As you can probably tell, I enjoy living in Denver and only have positive things to say about this state! I have tasted so many delicious and unique dishes from talented chefs, the outdoors is endless and the closest mountains are only 45 minutes away! The only issue I have and often miss is; fresh fruits, the ocean and warmth during the wintertime (hah).
Who knew getting fresh fruits would be such an issue? Well it very much is! I went to the farmers market recently and I didn’t see a single stand that was selling fruits! Basic fruits such as bananas, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries are very much attainable at the supermarket but more tropical fruits like mangoes, pineapples, and papaya are usually overripe or expensive (and still not good). If I come across some good looking tropical fruit, I won’t hesitate to purchase it, but I wouldn’t say it happens too often for me.
If you’ve been living under a rock, Colorado is landlocked and there is no large body of water, just large ponds and rivers that flow through the Rocky Mountains. For someone who spent her childhood living on an island, you can imagine how much I miss the ocean! The sound, the sand, the salty water is just incomparable!I just take advantage of every moment I am able to spend on the beach (when/if I make it to the ocean). The last time I was near the ocean I buried my feet in the sand and let the saltwater dry up on skin. It’s the little things!
Okay, this will probably not pertain to every reader and it might just be me but I get cold very easily! I talked to a handful of people who have lived in Colorado all their lives and they say Colorado is getting warmer and warmer every winter, but I don’t agree, although I may be biased since I grew up on a tropical island. Walking at night or in the shade of a building while the wind is blowing is NOT fun. No matter how many layers I have on, I’m still cold. I don’t look forward to the winter cold, but I look forward to winter fashion!
Even though I’ve been through four winters here in Colorado and I’m always cold, I just deal with it and I don’t think I will ever get used to it, but that’s the small price I pay for living in Colorado along with the lack of fresh fruits and no large body of water nearby.
