When COVID hit, I can tell you I had no structure in life, I had no plans at all! I lived life day by day and hour by hour to be completely honest. I didn’t have a job so life was pretty “free”. This didn’t last me very long though and I was getting really bored. I started doing research on the stock market, how to creating a blog, and being a blogger, and the real estate business and how to get started. Now I can finally say I am busy Monday through Friday working on different projects and building my Real Estate business!
This didn’t happen overnight though, but lots of trial and error. For those of you that have been following my blog since I first got it up and running, you know I had a gap when I wasn’t posting because I was focusing on completing real estate school and getting licensed. Since I got licensed, I was still learning a bunch of new programs and continued to neglect my blog page. Now that I have a routine going on in real estate, I started working on how I can implement my blog. I’ve slowly gotten into a routine that I can manage, although I am still working on it, I’m getting there!
The first thing I learned through this process is, I get distracted really easily and bored doing the same thing every day. Doing real estate five days a week was overwhelming me and bringing me down because it takes time to get your business going. So what I do is stagger my work; for my social media content, I’ve been working on posting 5x a week; Monday through Friday, at least. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I post on my real estate account in the morning, and Tuesday and Thursdays I’m putting up a blog post. Sometimes it takes me longer than usual to get a post up but getting those posts up in the morning lets me focus on the other important things I need to get done the rest of the day.
Once I post on social media, I will either work on my real estate or work on graphic design projects I have (yes, I’m also working with small businesses who need logos and designs) throughout the day. I try to work on Real Estate Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and work on my projects Tuesdays and Thursdays. From there, I leave my afternoons free for my OTHER job, where I’m actually making money doing sales at a fitness studio OR for meetings with clients when it’s necessary.
I understand that having this many projects and job commitments may not work for everyone, but it has worked for me because all of them need my attention at certain times of the day, and switching up my work throughout the days helps me stay motivated and not discouraged when things come up. If my cold calling for real estate has been a bust for the day, I can work on a design project or take a few hours off and head to my studio. The only way I am able to work at a fitness studio while doing everything else is because my hours are mostly in the evening. I get as much as I can done before 2:30 PM and then I head to the studio to get a few hours which I am so thankful I found a business that is flexible, motivated, and fun to be with!
As someone who is basically my own boss, staying motivated is really important because if you don’t put in work, you won’t succeed. After reading the book, Atomic Habits, it really changed my outlook on work and how I can remove bad habits and create good habits. That’s when I started creating a social media schedule and managing my time more instead of having that mindset of, “I can do it later”. If this is something you struggle with, I highly recommend reading this book because James Clear gives so many different examples of different habits that you can begin to relate to them and figure out how to implement them in your life!
